In 2024, Wolves hopes to beat Liverpool to the signing of a “very talented” player before the summer transfer window closes.
The 2023–24 campaign for Wolves has been uneven and is expected to conclude in an unsatisfactory way.
In the latter several months of the Premier League season, Gary O’Neil’s team appeared to be headed for a fight for some kind of European football.
Nevertheless, the Black Cats have dropped into the bottom half of the table and are now unlikely to finish in the top seven after four losses and one victory in their last five league games.
The Midlands team hasn’t had a completely bad season, either, since their 46 points this year are already five more than they had in 2022–2023.
However, O’Neil and company will probably need to bolster their roster if they hope to improve next season and make a serious run at European football.
Wolves appear to be fairly active in the transfer market even if the summer window is not yet open. As they try to bolster their roster this summer, it was reported last month that Wolves are interested in Red Star Belgrade midfielder Hwang In-beom. Bright Osayi-Samuel, the right-back for Fenerbahce, is reportedly worth €12 million (£10.2 million) to Gary O’Neil’s team, according to another rumor from late April.
In more recent times, Wolves have been connected to Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura and Werder Bremen’s Justin Njinmah, however Liverpool is also rumored to be interested in the striker. Wolves may face competition from Liverpool this summer in addition to Amoura, as both Premier League teams are rumored to be interested in a new brand.
Wolves are more eager than Liverpool to sign a “very talented” player for O’Neil. The player in question is Anthony Patterson, the goalkeeper for Sunderland.
Reliable writer Alan Nixon of Football League World reports that the Wolves have Patterson on their desire list in an attempt to replace Jose Sa. Nixon asserts that Patterson is still a target for Liverpool, who were said to be interested in the shot-stopper back in January as they want to add a new number two goalkeeper at Anfield.
The story makes no mention of a transfer fee, but Nixon does say that Sheffield United, another interested party, is prepared to pay £8 million for Patterson’s services.
Before the summer, the Black Cats will have a strong negotiating position because the goalie recently inked a new long-term contract at the Stadium of Light that may keep him with the team until 2028.
Patterson, a 23-year-old from Newcastle who attended Sunderland’s academy, has established himself as their starting striker. He has already made 123 first-team appearances for the North East squad, and after playing Fulham in the FA Cup last year, he received great accolades from former boss Tony Mowbray for his outstanding performances:
After the Fulham game, Mowbray stated, “The goalkeeper… listen, he’s a top goalkeeper.” “I’ve played football for over 40 years, and this young man is incredibly gifted and has a wonderful disposition.
He is unfazed by anything and maintains his composure throughout, not bouncing around aimlessly and losing the storyline. He’s a very composed goaltender with excellent saves.
