Former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Bakary Sako has admitted people didn’t understand his move to the club in 2012, but it’s not one he regrets.
The winger, who has played throughout Europe, has been talking to Peuple Vert about his career thus far.
Prior to making the €3 million move to Saint-Étienne in 2009, he began his career with LB Châteauroux. Before making the €3.8 million transfer to Wolves in August 2012, he was there for three years.
After finishing last in the Premier League the year before and having another terrible season, they were in the Championship at that point. Sako, however, had a successful year; he and Leigh Griffiths ended up as Wolves’ leading scorers with 13 goals apiece.
After making 124 appearances for the team over a three-year span, he scored 38 goals and provided 36 assists before departing on a free transfer in 2015, the year when Wolves returned to the Championship.
In the end, the decision proved to be fruitful for him, but he acknowledges that many others came to doubt it, especially after Wolves dropped to the third division of English football.
