The “best” defender in his division, valued at £2.5 million, is a target for Rangers.

Rangers  have allegedly focused on Philippe Clement’s first summer transfer window in command and securing a new face to bolster his defensive ranks as a dramatic Scottish Premiership nears its crescendo.

Rangers are going to have a busy summer ahead of them, beginning with a handful of exits, Scottish Premiership or not. As of right now, when their existing contracts at Ibrox expire, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, and Leon Balogun, among others, are scheduled to depart the team as free agents.
With lots of room behind them, the Gers will surely focus on adding more players. Rumors are already circulating that they may make a permanent move to sign Oscar Cortes, who is currently on loan from Lens. After an injury interrupted his loan stay, the winger may now have another opportunity to establish a reliable run and display his finest play in Scotland.

According to El Marcador TV, Rangers are eyeing a move to sign Jose Cordoba from Levski Sofia in a deal worth just €3m (£2.5m) this summer. The 22-year-old has impressed in Bulgaria’s first division, with journalist Jose Miguel Dominguez describing him as the “best defender in his league” this season in what is high, but deserved praise.

Now, it is Rangers who could be left benefitting, though they’re not alone in their interest. Alongside Rangers, clubs in France and Turkey are also reportedly interested in Cordoba to create a tight battle for his signature. Reports suggest that Rangers’ European exploits will be a big factor in the process, however, and could help their pitch to sign the defender this summer.

This summer, Rangers are treading carefully when it comes to exits. Even though everything might work out, they have to prioritize rebuilding their defensive depth in the upcoming months, beginning with Cordoba. The international player from Panama will have to fill Balogun’s shoes, and those at Ibrox will not be taking this challenge lightly.

“He is a warrior and he is somebody with experience who already had things like that (face injury) in the past,” Clement said of the seasoned center back after his injury earlier this season, via Planet Radio. I hope that’s the case since he thinks he can return quickly with a mask. It is the medical staff who need to decide that.”

However, if the Gers can work out a deal to sign Cordoba during the upcoming transfer window, they will be replacing the old this summer with the new.
