Horrible Towel Tales: Cowboys release former Steelers wide receiver

Cowboys wide receiver rumors: following Zay Jones’ visit as a free agent, Dallas releases the former Steelers pass-catcher.

The free agent Martavis Bryant is again available. The Dallas Cowboys released the former star wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday, per NFL Media.

According to the article, Bryant is anticipated to draw interest from other teams even though Dallas, which hosted Zay Jones on a free-agent visit on Wednesday, no longer needs his services.

One team that might get in touch with Bryant is the Steelers. Bryant was a 2014 fourth-round pick who scored 15 touchdowns in his first 21 games of the regular season.

Following the trade of Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers earlier in the offseason, Pittsburgh has reportedly signed veteran wide receiver Scotty Miller to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh has been attempting to bolster its receiving corps.

The 6’4 Bryant can still be used as a deep threat to help open things up for an offense even though he might not be at the top of his game. Bryant grabbed the biggest touchdown catch in NFL history as a rookie that season, measuring 94 yards, and the next season he recorded an 88-yard touchdown catch.

In the 2015 postseason divisional round, Bryant delivered one of the best individual performances in Steelers playoff history. Bryant filled in for the injured Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, and DeAngelo Williams in Pittsburgh’s 23-16 loss to the eventual champion Denver Broncos, amassing 194 all-purpose yards.

The career of 32-year-old Bryant has been hampered by suspensions. He broke the league’s drug-abuse rules, which resulted in his missing the whole 2016 and 2019 seasons. Bryant’s 2015 season began with a four-game suspension as well.

Bryant played with the XFL’s Las Vegas Vipers last spring before joining the Cowboys’ practice squad in November. Bryant last participated in a regular season game as a member of the Raiders in 2018.
