Red Sox Adjust Roster Following Return of Nick Pivetta

Nick Pivetta’s expected return from the disabled list due to a flexor strain gave the Red Sox a significant boost to their starting rotation.

Along with the reinstatement of Pivetta and infielder Romy González, Boston made other roster changes. According to a team statement, the Red Sox assigned infielder Zack Short for assignment and optioned right-hander Naoyuki Uwasawa to Triple-A Worceter in tandem.

Against the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners, Pivetta pitched well in both of his 2024 starts, recording a 0.82 ERA. Before injuries derailed González’s season, he made waves in Triple-A and was called up to the Red Sox.

He rejoins the team to provide Boston’s infield depth once more. Before his most recent trade, Short was obtained by the Red Sox from the New York Mets.

Uwasawa played for Boston throughout his MLB career and will undoubtedly be needed once more as a depth player in the major leagues.

Short was acquired by the Red Sox from the New York Mets before his most recent trade. During his MLB career, Uwasawa played innings for Boston, and it is likely that he will be needed once more as depth in the major leagues.
