A shocking managerial comeback is anticipated for Celtics icon Martin O’Neill.

Both current and former Celtic managers will be recognized for their exciting tenures at Parkhead, with some receiving more praise than others. Top in that group would be Martin O’Neill, whose five-year rule in Glasgow’s east end helped pave the way for Celtic’s 21st-century dominance of Scottish football.

At the club, the 72-year-old won three Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups, and a Scottish League Cup, reintroducing a conveyor belt of silverware that had been absent for the better part of the preceding ten years. He did, of course, also lead Celtic to the 2003 UEFA Cup final, where they won against Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool, and Boavista to leave fans with lifelong memories. The most noteworthy of his experiences after leaving the Hoops before leaving his final club position at Nottingham Forest in June 2019 were his successful stints at Aston Villa, Sunderland, and eventually as the manager of the Republic of Ireland’s national team.

Reports have indicated that the Irishman may make a surprise comeback to the dugout, even though it appears his managing career is over. Martin O’Neill was preparing to take over as manager. Fanatik claims that Dan Sucu, the principal owner of Rapid Bucharest, is planning a surprise move to try to entice O’Neill to transfer to Eastern Europe. Although they are at the bottom of their Liga I Championship group, the three-time Romanian premier league winners could place as high as fourth when the season is out.

The vacant role has also been discussed with Marius Sumudica and Mircea Lucescu. In the interim, former Fiorentina goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont will take over as interim manager until a replacement for Cristiano Bergodi is found. Even if he said it grudgingly, O’Neill acknowledged that his days as a manager were over in an interview with The Telegraph earlier this year. Might the allure of overseeing in Romania persuade him to reconsider? Time will tell on that front, but considering his prior remarks, it would be a significant turn-up for the books.
