Now Wolves could do something no other team has ever done in the history of the club.

Z Wolves can make history by being the first club to accomplish one single goal when they upset Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola. Tonight, Gary O’Neil’s Wolves will visit Manchester City in an attempt to upset the home team and weaken their title defense.

It is extremely unlikely that the trophy-winning juggernaut will suffer a setback against the Old Gold. Pep Guardiola’s team has, after all, managed to win 42 of their past 42 home games in all competitions, matching a club record that was achieved between December 1919 and November 1921. Despite this, O’Neil’s team has only lost once in 18 league games against bottom-half opponents, and that came against Wolves in September when they triumphed 2-1. Should they achieve a comparable outcome this evening, Wolves will create history.

If Wolves defeat Manchester City tonight, history might be made. Paul Merson, the former attacker for Arsenal, is among those who are almost certain that Man City will win 3-0 and are not expecting anything nice to come back to Molineux. Though the Englishman outwitted Guardiola tactically in the rematch, there is still hope for O’Neil’s team.

They put in a tremendous effort to defeat the champs 2-1 by remaining tenacious and performing a superb job of containing the Citizens. Even though they completed almost 600 passes and had 23 shots, Wolves limited the champions to their fourth-lowest xG of the season, 0.89. The Wanderers must have a merciless edge on the counterattack and be almost flawless in their group’s off-the-ball play if they are to have any hope of winning.

They would create history by winning three points if they can execute those two increments to a high degree and somehow neutralize players like Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Kevin De Bruyne.

They would become the first team in Premier League history to accomplish several league doubles during Guardiola’s tenure as league management. With victories of 2-0 and 3-2, Wolves finished the 2019–20 league season with a double over Man City.

Wolves’ performance versus the Big Six Although defeating City’s formidable squad, which appears set to win a record-tying fourth title in a row, will be more difficult this time around, their performance against the “big six” this season will instill confidence in them. With five wins (15 points) and five losses in the Premier League, Wolves has amassed the most points of any team playing the “big six.” They’ll need to rely entirely on their luck to withstand a barrage of strikes and use a clinical edge in attack if they want to make it to the sixth round.

Even while it’s quite improbable that they create history tonight, it would be a turnout for the books anyway.
