Paul Lambert believes that the reason behind Rangers’ stumble in the Premiership title race is fear.
After a dismal start under Michael Beale, Philippe Clement did a great job of pulling the team back into contention, and they even passed Celtic for the top spot for a short while.
However, two losses to Dundee and Ross County gave Brendan Rodgers’ team the upper hand once more.
Before last weekend’s victory against St Mirren, the Light Blues had only won once in five league games, including a draw in the derby and a loss to Motherwell weeks prior. That defeat and draw came within four days of each other.
Fear, according to basketball star Lambert, has been a major factor in every game when Clement’s team has lost.
When asked about his predictions for the next derbies—one in the league and one in the cup final—he told talkSPORT that the one at Parkhead would be crucial to the outcome.
The winner of that will be crowned the winner. My favorites are Celtic. They are the ones in control.
Rangers had a fear factor in the last few games when they’ve not got the points, whereas Celtic have kicked on again. Parkhead will be formidable for Rangers to get a result.
“The Scottish Cup Final can go either way because of the 50/50 split. But I just think Celtic at the minute have got the upper hand.”
