Rangers defeat St Mirren to maintain pressure on Celtic, and Cyriel Dessers’ 20th goal seals the victory.

Rangers’ close victory at St. Mirren put further pressure on Celtic. Before their own away game at Dundee this afternoon, the Light Blues moved level on points with their rivals after taking two leads in Paisley and managing to hang onto it the second time.

Even if it wasn’t a vintage Gers performance, they managed to win when Cyriel Dessers scored his 20th goal of the year to seal the victory.

When home defender James Bolton unintentionally diverted Mohamed Diomande’s header back across goal into his own net in the first half, they gained the lead.

Mikael Mandron’s incredible header that went barely inside the post gave the home team a response before the half ended.

With their own European aspirations in mind, the Buddies persisted in pushing the title-chasers all the way, but that suffered a setback at the end.

They were able to finish the game as Dessers deftly sidestepped a defender and climbed high in the area to head home James Tavernier’s delectable cross. Celtic, it’s your turn.
