After accusing Cantwell of diving in a match against Aberdeen earlier this season, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton slapped him for getting into a post-match brawl with Callum McGregor following the team’s 3-3 Old Firm draw. Cantwell, who led Rangers to a victory against Hearts in the Scottish Cup semifinal last weekend, claims he is unaffected by his critics.He’s also determined that he won’t change for anyone, even as he works to assist Philippe Clement’s team win the championship this season.
Cantwell made the following statement prior to today’s crucial Premiership match in Paisley: “It would be easy for me to be a lot more introverted as a person. However, I would never want to live a lie. I don’t wish to be dishonest.
“I consider myself to be the same guy on and off the pitch. There will always be differences in people’s opinions. Many people will form their own opinions. That’s football and life. But I have no intention of altering for anyone. The individuals that matter most to me are aware of who I am and are content with me.
“Verification from those who have no bearing on me is not necessary. There’s a lot more going on, so that introspective examination seems a little weird. However, it appears to be emphasized frequently. “I am the kind of athlete who seeks out talk, I am aware of it. And there will likely be some disagreement as well. Above all, though, I would prefer to be discussed in relation to my football skills. “I am aware that there are folks up here who must continue to be prominent and important. However, I’m focusing on my football right now.”
A few weeks ago, Rangers led the title race, but now that they’ve lost to Celtic at Ibrox and picked up points against Ross County and Dundee, they’re back in the hunt. They trail Brendan Rodgers’ team by three points with five games remaining. Although their character has been called into question lately, Cantwell is certain that they possess the mental toughness necessary to prevail. Furthermore, he claims that there won’t be any regrets if they don’t because, at one point, they weren’t even competing to win.
“I think mentality comes down to the big games,” Cantwell stated. You must be prepared for your performance in the big games to be evaluated. “I believe that this club have the mindset necessary to accomplish all of our goals for this season. But there’s a big difference between saying and actually doing it. “Everyone in the locker room is eager to wrap up the season with a bang. The mentality won’t be questioned if we accomplish everything we set out to do
If we don’t win, will we regret it? Not always. because at one time, when we were eight points behind, it wasn’t in our control. Thus, we’ve genuinely managed to regain our competitive edge. Yes, there was a small slippage while things were going well. However, the season is far from over. “We have six games left, and we must win them all. Should we succeed, I believe the season will be enjoyable.
