The spineless club will be desperate for Rangers and Celtic development.”

After Rangers’ “spineless” Scottish Cup loss, Ryan Stevenson anticipates that previous club Hearts would be keen to crush their hopes of winning the Scottish Premiership. In the semi-final on Sunday, April 21, at Hampden Park, Rangers defeated Hearts 2-0. This is the seventh time this season that Rangers has won the match in all competitions.

As the title fight with Celtic ideally goes down to the wire, Hearts have one more chance to defeat the Gers at Tynecastle in what could be a momentous encounter. BBC Sport pundit Stevenson wrote the following in his column for the Daily Record’s online edition on April 25: “Five starts at Rangers this season and five losses is terrible form by anyone’s standards – made all the more baffling by the fact that Hearts have beaten every other top flight side including Celtic home and away.”

Perhaps the most distressing of all was their lackluster performance against Philippe Clement’s team in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday. That will come up in a moment. However, if I were a member of that Hearts squad, I would be hoping that the Rangers vs. Celtics championship match reaches its decisive day on May 18.

“Hopefully, Rangers will still have a chance to win in Gorgie, so I can go out and destroy them in a game that truly matters.” Even that would be too little, too late, to be really honest. However, it would at least demonstrate to everyone—including the Hearts players themselves—that they are capable of defeating Rangers.

The Rangers and Celtics championship match might last a long time. Rangers truly has Hearts beat this season; their cup victory last weekend was hardly historic, but it was nonetheless highly deserved in light of their recent poor performance.

The championship race might very well come down to the wire. Philippe Clement’s team will most likely now need to win away against Celtic if that is to occur.

That would be extremely disappointing if they were to lose on the last day of play after accomplishing that and winning every other match to advance to the next round of matches.

The Hearts players may have been more driven to defeat the Gers in their most recent meeting, but they also had added motive to do so. Rangers must defeat St Mirren next weekend before considering the possibility of a shootout on the last day of play. After that, it will be game by game.
