The Molineux supporters lost their cool in the second half of Wolves’ Premier League match against Bournemouth, as the team was denied a chance to score a goal via VAR yet again. Disappointingly, despite the return of some important players, Gary O’Neil’s team played a really bad game against the Cherries.
Throughout the match, Wolves were outmatched and outfought and never seemed to be at ease. Midway through the first half, Bournemouth took the lead thanks to a goal from Antoine Semenyo , who took advantage of a bad clearing by Max Kilman. Without Jose Sa’s goal for Wolves, Androni Iraola’s team may have been out of sight. The Portuguese goalkeeper did, in fact, save Wolves’ faces.
The second-half featured a highly contentious moment, as supporters have grown accustomed to seeing, when Hwang Hee-chan’s header was chalked off by referee Stuart Attwell after VAR instructed him to go to the monitor. What Wolves supporters yelled at Molineux following additional VAR controversy during tonight’s match vs Bournemouth
After Hwang headed in a wonderful cross from Nelson Semedo’s right side, he believed he had scored his first goal of 2024.
Supporters of the Wanderers noticed that the goal was being examined after it first seemed like nothing was being done. Matheus Cunha caught Justin Kluivert with a flailing arm during the build-up. At the time, this was not discussed, and neither did Bournemouth players make any appeals either before or after Hwang’s header found the net. When Attwell walked to the monitor to view the play, he saw that the goal had been chalked off and a foul had been called. In addition, Cunha was booked for his misdeeds.
Then, Wolves supporters chanted, “It’s not football anymore,” according to journalist Steve Madeley, who was on the ground tonight. There were more chants directed towards the Premier League.
Yet another humiliating choice, yet awful The number of choices that have hurt the Wolves this season is almost unbelievable at this point. This most recent one was incredibly mild and hardly a glaring mistake, with Kluivert hardly hindered at all. This will just be brushed aside in another game that takes place this weekend or tomorrow night. However, that just seems to be Wolves’ style, and O’Neil will undoubtedly talk a lot about the event following the game. But it’s has to be stated that for the majority of tonight’s game, Wolves played fairly poorly. It was only until Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez was sent off that they really began to press and play.
It was among O’Neil’s poorest performances to date. There just wasn’t enough players for the home team, and the following game will require a massive comeback.
