As a Celtic “plot move,” the 16-goal star was “close” to completing a £6 million trade to Rangers.

Celtic is reportedly in the process of identifying a possible goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign, as they get ready for the possibility of playing without first-choice Joe Hart.

The former England international is currently relishing in his final few weeks of a legendary career in goalkeeping, and he will look to cap out his time at Parkhead with another Premiership and Scottish Cup victory.

Although Hart has gained popularity since moving to Glasgow, he has faced criticism for some of his performances in the third season, which has been the most difficult in Scotland to date.

For Celtic to win a championship the following season, they will need to find a worthy Hart substitute. According to claims from Football Insider, the reigning champions are now considering Austrian international Patrick Pentz.

Pentz is presently on loan from recently crowned Bundesliga winner Bayer Leverkusen to Danish team Brondby.

The 27-year-old has shown promise this year and is a member of the Brondby team, which is headed for its third league championship in the previous 20 years and its 12th overall.

Pentz is a candidate for Ralf Ragnick’s Euro 2024 team this summer because he has contributed significantly to that, keeping nine clean sheets in 24 games.

When the transfer window reopens, the shot-stopper’s Leverkusen contract is scheduled to expire in June 2025. Consequently, his potential suitors will be trying to get a competitive deal for him. Football Insider does, however, understand that Southampton, a team vying for promotion from the Championship, and PSV, a team from the Eredivisie, will be strong rivals for his services.
