Peter Grant has made higher expectations of Yang and Luis Palma, the Celtics’ failing combo in recent weeks, the Hoops wingers have lacked conviction, as even Palma has acknowledged that he hasn’t been up to par. In the historic Scottish Cup semi-final matchup between Celtics and Aberdeen on Saturday, Grant believes that James Forrest, a veteran, ought to have started ahead of wing rivals Yang and Palma. Instead, Forrest had to rely on coming off the bench to put Celtics ahead.
The Parkhead icon stated on Go Radio: “He had found his game and was playing well before the suspension at Hearts.” He hasn’t performed nearly as well as he did after returning from that. Luis Palma is the same way. For that reason, I assumed James Forrest would have kicked off.
It was amusing, because I believe James played his best when he was on the left side of the court. I know he receives criticism. I believed we lost the flow once more when he moved to the right and Palma moved to the left. The problem we had was that we allowed far too many crosses into the box, which suited Aberdeen’s advantages.
We don’t know if he’s carrying injuries, I know James had issues in the past, so maybe Brendan sees that he’s more effective coming on rather than starting, which leaves him with Yang and Palma at this moment in time. James made a big impact when he came on, Celtic were on the front foot, but Palma and Yang have not done enough in the last few weeks to warrant playing in front of James.
