As the new chairman of the League Managers’ Association, Martin O’Neill has secured the position of highest authority.
After Howard Wilkinson steps down at the end of the season, the former manager of Celtic and the Republic of Ireland takes over as manager of Leeds United.
The latter has worked for the company for over thirty years, and O’Neill was elected by other managers to take over as chair after being nominated.
The 72-year-old Irishman has been away from the management circles since his departure from Nottingham Forest in 2019, but he has never ruled out going back to the dugout.
However, as he prepared to assume this new role, O’Neill expressed his pride at being handed the reins.
O’Neill declared, “I am incredibly honored that my fellow managers have elected me as the new LMA Chair.
Howard Wilkinson, who has managed the LMA’s expansion for more than 30 years and provided outstanding, devoted, and passionate service to its members, is being succeeded by me.
The support I have received from the LMA throughout my time as a manager has been hugely important to me and I am delighted to have the opportunity to give something back to the association.
“I very much look forward to working alongside [chief executive] Richard Bevan and the team.
“I would like to build on the work Howard has done so diligently and hopefully continue to support the current and next generation of LMA members.
