With Liverpool competing, Manchester City is said to be in negotiations over a Wolves defender.

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Ait-Nouri is allegedly attracting more interest from Manchester City.

Despite his longstanding reputation at Molineux, the left-sided player struggled to secure a spot in the squad during the tenure of former manager Julen Lopetegui. Though the Algerian international is now an essential component of a generally appealing 3-4-3 system, the acquisition of Gary O’Neil has improved things. In the Premier League, Ait-Nouri has only scored two goals and provided one assist, but his overall play has only improved his standing. He is currently 22 years old.

Wolves are in an uncommon position with relation to Ait-Nouri because of Angers’ 50% sell-on clause from their previous club. With little over two years left on his contract, the player has the option to buy out the clause, which the West Midlands team is rumored to have. Developments are anticipated in the summer.

Man City and Wolves have reportedly already discussed a possible deal for the player, according to FootballTransfers. According to the report, City would be willing to offer Sergio Gomez as part of any deal for Ait-Nouri, but it’s not obvious if Wolves would be open to that. It is said that Wolves value Ait-Nouri approximately €70 million (£59.76 million), a decision that is likely impacted by the circumstances surrounding Angers. At a time when it’s unknown who will succeed Jurgen Klopp at the conclusion of the season, Liverpool has also reportedly expressed interest in Ait-Nouri.

The Merseyside giants now have plenty of options at left back, with Joe Gomez and Owen Beck as backups and Kostas Tsimikas serving as Andrew Robertson’s backup.

Man City and Wolves have a history of economic dealings. Tommy Doyle moved on loan to the Etihad Stadium last summer, while Matheus Nunes left Molineux for the same location. In the summer, that agreement is anticipated to become permanent. Ait-Nouri is in a slightly different circumstance. Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, and Rico Lewis are already available for Pep Guardiola to use at left back as needed. It only makes sense to trade for Ait-Nouri at that price if Guardiola intends to frequently play a back three. Playing at wing-back is far more Ait-Nouri’s forte than at full-back.

City might also need to exercise some common sense in determining Gomez’s worth. The former Spain Under-21 international has played for just 434 minutes this season in 14 appearances, with just three starts.
