After the teams that will play in the top six and bottom six were confirmed over the weekend, Scottish football fans are eagerly awaiting the publishing of the post-split cinch Premiership dates.
Even though the twice-postponed match between Dundee and Rangers is the only remaining fixture on the pre-split list that needs to be played, it has no bearing on who will finish in the top six after Hibs’ 1-1 draw with Motherwell and Dundee’s 0-0 draw at Aberdeen on Saturday.
The confirmed top six teams are Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Kilmarnock, St. Mirren, and Dundee; the confirmed bottom six teams are Hibs, Motherwell, Aberdeen, St. Johnstone, Ross County, and Livingston.
The Scottish Professional Football League is now finalizing the calendar in collaboration with the police and Sky Sports, its primary broadcast partner, with five rounds of games left. The schedule is reportedly not going to be finalized until after Wednesday’s Dundee vs.
Rangers game. An SPFL source told The Daily Record, “The fixture announcement will be after all games have been played.” In previous seasons, the league has been able to publish the matches by Tuesday. The confirmed placements on the table determine how the fixtures are timetallied.
There will be five gameweeks, which fall on April 27/28, May 4/5, May 11/12, May 14/15, and May 18/19. The last weekend of the season will feature noon kickoffs on Saturday for the top six, and 24 hours later on Sunday for the bottom six. The Scottish Cup semi-finals take place this weekend, thus the league is off.
This season’s last Old Firm game, which many are calling a title decider, is scheduled to go at Celtic Park. This year, as in previous years, it is expected to take place at the start of the split to prevent the result of that game designating either Celtic or Rangers as the official champion.
