Chris Sutton thinks Rangers’ penalty call in the second half of their Sunday (April 14) loss to Ross County was appropriate. On Sunday at 02:24 PM on Sky Sports Football, the analyst declared that Brandon Khela was “unlucky” to give up the spot kick, even though he acknowledged that the ball had struck his arm.
Sutton couldn’t resist making fun of the Gers, saying he was used to seeing Philippe Clement’s team get penalties. James Tavernier’s subsequent effort, however, was insufficient to spark a late comeback, as the Staggies won 3-2. Sutton explained, “It’s the arm’s position.” It might be considered somewhat unlucky, but he leaps with his arms raised and his knee bent. None of us will likely protest, as we are accustomed to Rangers receiving penalties.
After falling to Ross County, the Rangers cannot afford any more mistakes. With the first appeals being rejected on the pitch, VAR asked the referee to go to the monitor, and Rangers was rightfully awarded a penalty because Khela’s arm was outstretched.
Tavernier boldly moved up to locate the bottom corner, and it didn’t take him long to determine that an offense had been committed. However, it proved insufficient for the Gers, as they suffered a setback to their title chances as a result of a dreadful second-half display, which saw them leave Glasgow empty-handed.
Sutton’s continued willingness to make fun of the Light Blues’ penalty record, which has been a point of concern this season, is not surprising.
However, the Light Blues can’t afford to worry about it because they have some important games coming up in an effort to reclaim the lead in the title fight.
