Ibrox Old Firm conflict prompts Celtic to lodge a complaint with the SFA.

The UK The National reports that Celtic has asked the Scottish FA to clarify the VAR procedure that resulted in Fabio Silva’s penalty kick for Rangers during the 3-3 Old Firm match at Ibrox.

According to a news article from April 8th, the club feels that referee John Beaton was not shown a crucial viewpoint of the event in which Silva was knocked down by Alistair Johnston within the box.

This judgment is similar to what Rangers made during the previous Old Firm match at Parkhead, when replays showed the ball struck the defender’s hand but VAR did not award a penalty for handball.

Following the Rangers incident at Ibrox, Celtic writes to SFA Replays of the incident reveal Silva was kicked in the knee by Johnston after he had cut past him in the box in what would have been an obvious spot-kick in any other game, so Celtic’s argument seems a little odd.

Despite Sutton’s best attempts to pretend the striker hadn’t been booted in the knee, Silva was fouled in the box, earning Rangers a penalty that was skillfully converted by James Tavernier. This left Chris Sutton furious live on Sky Sports.

The legendary Gers player claimed it was a straightforward penalty and not even worth disputing, which led Graeme Souness to call Sutton “biased” in response to his outbursts. However, it is evident that there are opposing views in Glasgow.

After the previous Old Firm match at Parkhead, Rangers eventually asked Willie Collum not to officiate another match for the team, which led to them being made fun of by Celtic fans.

We’ll have to wait and see what they do. In other Rangers news, Tavernier’s performance surprised Gabby Agbonlahor.
