Following the match, Neil Lennon took issue with Philippe Clement’s remarks.

Neil Lennon has reacted to remarks made by Rangers manager Philippe Clement following the game on the choice to give penalties to both Celtic and Rangers.

Lennon was perplexed by Clement’s response to the VAR intervention during the game, as he was not thrilled with the call to award a penalty for the handball.

Lennon said: [Sky Sports], “When I first saw it I though Johnston got the ball.

It’s possible to take another look and see very little interaction. He encounters him. It’s embarrassing how he falls as well. “I’m not happy with Philippe’s remarks following the game; Goldson’s handball is not a penalty, and that is just plain wrong.”

Clement also stated that he thought Fabio Silva was clearly fouled by Rangers, leading to a penalty, and that the Portuguese striker shouldn’t have been booked in the first place. “It is not getting a penalty,” he stated to the Daily Record. It is extremely evident to all that this is a penalty. A kick has been delivered to Fabio Silva’s knee. Hence, it is not receiving anything. It is somewhat unfortunate that he is receiving a yellow card for that offense first. It is crucial to have VAR in this sense. It has nothing to do with the referee. It is quite difficult for them to notice everything, and they must make decisions in a split second. It is not feasible to witness everything, which is why VAR is crucial for football.

In the end, VAR intervention altered the outcome of the match, awarding two penalties and disqualifying a goal. The Rangers penalty award was definitely the most dubious of the three interventions.
