Kris Boyd thinks that after returning from injury, Rangers star Abdallah Sima would start the Old Firm game against Celtic as a substitute.
The Senegal international has been playing fantastically for Philippe Clement’s team this season until suffering a two-month-long muscular ailment.
To expand the manager’s options, the on-loan winger did, nonetheless, come back onto the field as a substitute in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Hibernian.
Boyd, however, told Sky Sports on April 2 that he would be shocked to see the 22-year-old start given the play of Cyriel Dessers and Fabio Silva. “Yes, I believe it will help the title run in, but I don’t see Sima starting either,” he remarked. With Fabio Silva on the left and Dessers in the middle, I believe the Rangers have recently established themselves there.
“Obviously, Sima’s injury was serious given his strong start at Rangers, but Philippe Clement will be happy to have him back because he poses a threat.”
Rangers don’t have to return Abdallah Sima right away. Even though it could be tempting to start one of the team’s top scorers again for a game this important, it’s important to consider the wider picture.
Even though the match versus Celtic is being promoted as a title decider, there will still be another Old Firm matchup when the league divides. This game is not the season’s last one.
It is imperative to keep your best players accessible throughout the season since even if the team wins the game, it won’t mean much if they lose the remaining games.
In what could be a close encounter, having Sima available to enter the game later to relieve fatigued legs could be crucial. The squad has performed well in recent weeks when Silva and Dessers are together. Sima doesn’t have to return before he’s fully recovered, but if he is healthy and prepared to play, his place on the squad shouldn’t be in question.
