Jimmy Kebe was a remarkable player for the Royals, but after leaving the Berkshire side, his career came to an en.
After moving from Lens to the Royals in January 2008, the Mali international did not immediately contribute to the team; throughout his first few years in Berkshire, the winger was not a major player.
However, Kebe experienced some positive effects from the club’s relegation back in the spring of 2008, as players like Glen Little and John Oster left the team in that same year.
The following year, Bobby Convey also left the team, moving out of the Select Car Leasing Stadium for the 2008–09 season.
Kebe was always going to get greater playing time in light of those departures, and in 2008–09, he made 41 league appearances while dishing out 12 assists and two goals.
He had the self-assurance to keep going after that season, and he had an excellent goal and assist record for the majority of his time in Berkshire.
This was due in large part to Brian McDermott, the former Arsenal player’s complete faith in him and Jobi McAnuff to defeat Championship full-backs.
The 4-4-2 formation made McAnuff, Kebe, and Hal Robson-Kanu important players, but McDermott clearly prioritized wing play, which makes sense given Ian Harte’s ability to cross the field and Shaun Cummings’s increased athleticism while he was a Royal.
Cummings shown sufficient self-control to refrain from taking risks, allowing Kebe to freely express himself without continual concern for his defensive duties.
Since Garath McCleary didn’t join Reading until the summer of 2012 and Michail Antonio struggled to get playing time before leaving for Sheffield Wednesday, Kebe was undoubtedly at the club at a highly favorable period. Reading was also well-run at the time.
The former Mali player will be frustrated that he could not retain them in the Premier League prior to his departure in the following year, after having been promoted with them in April of 2012.

Kebe was only 29 years old when Ian Holloway signed him back to Crystal Palace in the summer of 2013, and he appeared to be headed for success with the Eagles, who had recently been promoted to the Premier League.
Sadly, the winger’s career didn’t exactly pan out. After moving to Selhurst Park, he played in just 15 professional football games, nine of which were with loan team Leeds United.
He only managed one goal during the process, and it’s likely that the 40-year-old was very unhappy with how his professional career came to an end.
He struggled at Elland Road, even under former Leeds manager McDermott, and eventually returned to Palace.
After being let go by the London team in 2015, he appeared ready to start over at Mallorca, but he eventually retired without making a single appearance.
He had a great performance at the SCL Stadium for a variety of reasons, including the enthusiastic reception he received and McDermott’s ability to maximize his potential. But following his spell in Berkshire, he was unable to repeat it, and his career ended badly.
