According to Gabriel Agbonlahor, Kalvin Phillips’ career is still in ruins and he has received even more “really bad news.”
In 2022, Manchester City signed Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United to take Fernandinho’s place as captain and to support Rodri.
Even though the midfielder knew he would have to battle to get into City before the Spaniard, he must have checked in for extra minutes.
Despite having a treble success to his record, Phillips did not contribute significantly to it; he played just 593 minutes overall and started a Premier League game only after the title was won.
His season didn’t start off much better either, as he only made 10 appearances across all competitions prior to going on loan to West Ham United in January.
Due to Phillips’ ongoing troubles at the Hammers, he was left out of the England team this past week in anticipation of Euro 2024.
The situation for Phillips may have gotten worse since Gabriel Agbonlahor thinks Kobbie Mainoo will make it impossible for him to return to the England team for the competition this summer.
Following Mainoo’s appearance on TalkSPORT, Agbonlahor stated, “But what it is is really bad news for Kalvin Phillips.”
Nobody is even discussing him at the moment.
“I feel like his chances of playing for England now that Mainoo is in may be gone, even though he had a few strong games at West Ham.”
Even with the Ivan Toney penalty, which I really enjoy watching, Kalvin Phillips probably plays it back to Maguire, then to the goalie, then to the left-back.
“Kalvin Phillips has been a member of numerous squads even when he isn’t participating for City.
“Frustration has gripped everyone.”
Kobbie Mainoo appears to have been raised in the wrong Manchester team because of his exceptional attributes, which would make him a perfect match at the Etihad.
The Manchester United midfielder has been outstanding, and his strong debut on the international scene may have won him a place in the starting lineup as well as in the Euro 2024 squad.
That would be unfortunate news for another City player, as it would mean that Phil Foden would never be able to play centrally for England. At least for the time being.
The “Stockport Iniesta” considers himself a creative midfield player, and he has excelled when Pep Guardiola has given him the opportunity to play there this year.
However, Southgate probably finds Mainoo a more desirable choice due to his defensive prowess, with Foden stuck on the wings.
