According to ESPN sources, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has apparently being considered for a coaching position at Manchester United.
ESPN revealed yesterday night that Manchester United is considering hiring Gary O’Neil as a coach, which may have caused some little fear among Wolves supporters.
The manager has done a fantastic job thus far, leading the Old Gold to a comfortable position in the top half of the Premier League league, despite only arriving at Molineux a few days before the 2023–24 season began.
With ten games remaining, the Midlands club might yet qualify for Europe the following season, with seventh place up for grabs.
Wolves will have a challenging finish to the season because they lost important players to injury before making it to the final stretch. But if there’s one thing about O’Neil’s team that stands out, it’s their resilience in the face of difficulty.
It was maybe not shocking to see O’Neil chosen to succeed Julen Lopetegui at Molineux, given how he managed to keep Bournemouth in the top division the previous season.
With Lopetegui’s departure from the team due to worries about squad depth, a possible relegation battle was assumed to be imminent, giving O’Neil a daunting assignment from the start.
Financial constraints made the 2023 summer devastating for Wolves, as many important players left and few arrived. Despite this, the manager hasn’t let a small team to stop him from making an impression.
Gary O’Neill is reportedly wanted by Manchester United.
As O’Neil continues to love his work at Molineux, Wolves have defied the odds and Lopetegui’s concerns, sitting just three points out from the European spots.
ESPN revealed yesterday that Manchester United has shown interest in the manager due to his efforts in the Midlands for a possible coaching position.
Journalist Mark Odgen dissected the news on YouTube in addition to the story to clarify the circumstances around the Red Devils’ purported interest.
According to sources close to the club, Wolves manager Gary O’Neill is being considered for a coaching position at Old Trafford. We’re not sure if this is a managerial or coaching position.
“They [Man Utd] want the best options available, and the current state of affairs is that football operations want to get feedback from players all throughout the game about who the best young coaches, managers, and rising stars are, and O’Neil, at forty, checks that box.”
“I don’t think he will take over as manager at Old Trafford, but United is interested in speaking with him about a potential coaching role; whether Wolves are willing to allow United to speak with him is another story.”
O’Neil leaving the project he is constructing at Wolves for a “lesser job” would be confusing because the role is shifting away from being the main man, especially after he expressed his unavailability.
It remains to be seen how keen United is to sign the “remarkable” Wolves coach, who was praised by Alex Crook of talkSPORT. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that the Englishman is committed to sending the 2023–24 campaign out on a high note at Molineux.
