Leeds United might compete for Celtic stars with Brentford and Brighton.

Given that Celtic wins promotion at the end of the season, Leeds United may make a summer bid for midfielder Matt O’Riley of Celtic, according to Give Me Sport.

The Danish international has been a revelation for the Scottish Premiership giants this season, justifying the interest he has generated during the 2023–24 campaign. Although his current team is currently greatly benefiting from his contributions, it may only be a matter of time before the international moves on if he can keep up his current level of play.

It may also be argued that he has already done more than enough to merit a transfer south of the border or elsewhere during the upcoming transfer window, as summer approaches.

But with three years remaining on his Glasgow contract, any team hoping to recruit him will need to shell out a sizable sum of money.

Premier League teams have shown interest in him, but this is probably going to hinder any Championship club from completing a move for him.

According to the Give Me Sport story, the 23-year-old, who was born in England and had previously played for MK Dons, is being pursued by Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Leeds, who would be tempted to make a move for the youngster if they return to the top division, might join Roberto De Zerbi’s team and the Bees in the hunt for the midfield talent, who the Seagulls have been studying intently.

If they get promoted this summer, Daniel Farke will probably have more money to work with, which might enable him to sign the Danish player to an Elland Road contract.

The Whites and other contenders in this race may have hope that they can secure a summer deal if O’Riley’s team is willing to cash in on the player if the price is right.

But in order to have a chance of winning this race, Leeds will most likely need to be promoted.

There has been a lot of talk about Kalvin Phillips potentially returning and although the Man City player isn’t certain to make the move back to Elland Road, he could be a great player to have alongside Ethan Ampadu (pictured above).

If he is to come in though, they will need someone who’s more attacking in front of them. O’Riley could be that man who can compensate for the duo’s potential lack of attacking contributions.

If Ampadu and Phillips are sat behind him, that could give the current Celtic man the license to break forward without worrying too much about needing to rush back if the Whites lose possession in the final third.

They can’t afford to blow too much of their summer budget on O’Riley if they are promoted though, with other areas also needing to be strengthened.
