Finidi George, the Nigerian Super Eagles’ interim coach, has revealed his starting team for the international friendly against Ghana.
The first meeting between the two teams since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast is the international friendly between Nigeria and Ghana, which is set to begin at Stade de Marrakech, Morocco, by 5 p.m. today, March 22.
Remember that Nigeria advanced to the competition final, where they were defeated 2-1 by the hosts, Ivory Coast, while Ghana was eliminated in the group stage.
The encounter between Nigeria and Ghana later today marks the first time the two sides have played each other since the Black Stars denied the Super Eagles a chance to compete in the 2022 World Cup in Abuja with a 1-1 draw.
Thus, the friendly match serves as essentially a chance for the Super Eagles to exact revenge on their opponents from West Africa.
The nation’s interim coach, Finidi George, chose to field a three-man attack during the friendly match after Jose Peseiro’s contract terminated on February 29.
Since Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Osimhen, and Victor Boniface are all out due to varying degrees of fitness concerns, the coach has opted to employ Sadiq Umar as his top 9 player, with Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman covering the flanks.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria’s starting lineup against the Black Stars of Ghana is shown below:
Stanley Nwabali, goalie
Jamilu Collins, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, and Bright Osayi-Samuel are the defenders.
Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Alex Iwobi are midfielders.
Attackers: Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, and Sadiq Umar.
