O’Riley is “not upset” that Celtic turned down Atletico’s offer.

Atletico Madrid’s attempt to buy Matt O’Riley from Celtic in January has come to light.

During the most recent transfer season, the Parkhead club rejected an initial loan bid from the La Liga giants that included an obligation to purchase the 23-year-old for £18 million this summer.

While acknowledging that it was “cool,” the Denmark international maintains he is “not upset” that Celtic rejected their offer for his services.

Although the Hoops are reportedly looking for £25 million, he would not rule out leaving Glasgow this summer.

The Scottish champions would profit handsomely if O’Riley left this summer considering he only cost £1.5 million when he signed with MK Dons during Ange Postecoglou’s second transfer window.

O’Riley made the first mention of Atletico’s interest in a media interview with Tipsbladet, a Danish outlet.

He declared: “It was cool that Celtic received an offer from them, Atletico Madrid.”

Celtic’s demand for more money kept me from leaving all that close. I don’t take offense at it. The fact that a club like them would want me was exciting to me. Naturally, it’s fantastic to receive an offer from Atletico Madrid as it doesn’t happen often.

O’Riley kept the door open for a summer move in case the Spanish side revived their interest. We’ll have to wait and see, he remarked.

Against Northern Ireland in November of last year, the attacking midfielder made his debut for his country.

After missing out on the impending Denmark camp, he was eventually called up for this weekend’s double header against the Faroe Islands and Switzerland.

Reo Hatate, meantime, has expedited his recuperation from injury by participating in a Celtic bounce game.

The Japanese midfielder participated for forty-five minutes of Wednesday afternoon’s private match between the Hoops and St Mirren.
