Talkin’ Ball was joined by Phil Simms to talk about the Giants’ homrun attempt to acquire edge rusher Brian Burns.
The New York Giants’ acquisition of veteran edge rusher Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers was one of the major offseason moves. The Giants did not have to forfeit a first-round pick in order to get Burns, much like they did in the Christian McCaffrey trade.
Burns has only been playing for five years, but in that time, he has already secured 46 sacks. With Kayvon Thibodeaux, he has the ability to wreck havoc and make the Giants pass rush seem terrifying. Speaking with Talkin’ Ball, Phil Simms highlighted how significant the deal is for the Giants.
All of them, that’s what I’ve seen. Throughout the season and since the Giants acquired him, I’ve watched him a lot. It’s a home run, so all I want to do is go circle the bases and throw the bat down.I remarked, “Let me just go watch him again just to see what I think,” after they had completed the trade. I said to myself, “Oh my god, Carolina, you have to be loaded for the Giants to get him.” And I am aware of the financial situation. Pat is a good sprinter who always hustles and follows from behind.
Simms’ assessment that it’s a homrun for the Giants is accurate. As mentioned, they acquired one of the top linebackers in the NFL without having to forfeit a first-round pick. Burns will boost New York’s defense right away since he is an excellent QB chaser.
According to Simms, Burns and Thibodeaux might have the defensive composition necessary to fully transform the Giants. Burns collected eight sacks and Thibodeaux eleven. This may be a very dangerous pass rush.
