After leaving Sunderland’s setup, promising striker Mason Cotcher was recently put on trial by Leeds United. In his most recent U18 game for the Whites, he scored against Liverpool.
Leeds has found that investing in youth has been a reliable way to improve the team’s quality through the academy at a far lower cost.
Three players who unequivocally demonstrate the importance of being ahead of the curve in identifying talent worthy of signing are Crysencio Summerville, Mateo Joseph, and Pascal Struijk.
The most recent player Leeds has their eye on for the academy program is Mason Cotcher, an England young striker.
After departing from Sunderland, he evaluated his alternatives and decided to go to Thorp Arch for a trial with the Whites.
The 17-year-old striker has since made a few appearances for Leeds’ U21 team as well as the U18 team.
It’s unclear where Cotcher will play football after leaving the Academy of Light because he had brief periods with both Arsenal and Manchester United before joining Leeds on trial.
But he has scored twice in his three U18 PL games for Leeds.
His first goal, strangely, occurred at Thorp Arch against his old team, Sunderland, when he scored the game’s lone goal. His second goal, a powerful left-footed drive from the edge of the box, came during the weekend’s away victory against Liverpool.
Leeds may not be the team Cotcher believes is ideal for him at this point in his career, but he is undoubtedly settling in, and head of recruitment Jordan Miles will be happy to see that happen.
