McKinnon, a Rangers rookie, was called up to the Scotland Under-21 squad as three out

Three players are no longer in contention for the Scotland under-21 team, thus Cole McKinnon has been added.

The Rangers starlet, 21, has been added to the squad ahead of the Euro 2025 qualifier against Kazakhstan.

McKinnon had not been included in the initial squad list at the start of the month but has been selected as a replacement with three players out.

Days before the game, Ben McPherson, a Celtic player on loan at Queen’s Park, Kai Fotheringham of Dundee United, and Josh Mulligan of Dundee all left the squad.
And when it came to filling in for the under-21 team and joining the group for the pivotal Euros qualifier, Scot Gemmill went to McKinnon.

Congratulations to Cole McKinnon for being called up to the @ScotlandNT U21s squad, according to a Rangers post.”
This season, McKinnon has made two appearances for Rangers: one in the Scottish Cup and one in the Europa League.

Earlier this month, in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 match against Benfica, the academy talent came off the bench. And three days later, he had a brief appearance against Hibs.

In the SPFL Trust Trophy, the midfielder has also made two appearances for the Ibrox B squad.
