After receiving an unexpected double call-up, a Rangers star is faced with deciding which country to support.

A January signing for the Rangers is faced with a difficult choice on which country to represent.

After getting called up to TWO nations, Mohamed Diomande, a midfielder for Rangers, must make a significant decision regarding his future on the international scene.

The 22-year-old appeared ready to defect from Ivory Coast, his birth country, to Ghana; but, he has since been called up to play for the Ivorian under-23 team during the impending international break.

Diomande will now have to choose which nation to represent after playing just once for Ivory Coast against Morocco in the previous year. Despite not having any family ties to Ghana, he is eligible thanks to his Ghanaian passport because he was reared there.

After beginning his career at Ghana’s Right to Dream academy system, the Ibrox star secured a transfer to Danish team FC Nordsjaelland. During their stay in Denmark, Otto Addo, who was the Ghana national team’s second-choice at the time, suggested that Diomande be called up to play against Nigeria and Uganda.

The following was announced by the official Ghana National Team Twitter account: “Diomande Mohammed of Rangers of Scotland, Nathaniel Adjei of France, David Akologo of Bolivia, and Nordsjaellands Ibrahim Osman have been named in Ghana’s 26-man squad for this month’s international friendly against Nigeria and Uganda.”

“The trio and Frederick Asare of Asante Kotoko have earned their first-ever call-ups thanks to outstanding performances with their respective clubs. Otto Addo’s new era officially begins with the friendly games in Marrakech, Morocco.

But before he could commit to the Ivory Coast, he would first have to play against Chateauroux, Thierry Henry’s France youth squad, on Friday.

Because the games are friendlies, Diomande’s decision to play for the Elephants won’t bind him to either country until he participates in a competitive match.

After signing on loan for the rest of the season, Rangers are required to purchase the central midfield player in the summer. Having adapted well to Glasgow life, he has made an impression most of his ten outings so far, often playing with John Lundstram. He has cemented a regular starting spot in the engine room under Philippe Clement thanks to his three goal contributions.
