Celtic’s “gamble” in the SPL title match against Rangers is revealed by Lee McCulloch.

Lee McCulloch thinks that despite being in a title battle with Rangers, Celtic chose to take a “gamble” by not making any significant additions during the January transfer window.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer on Sunday, March 17, the analyst claimed that while everyone anticipated the Hoops to make significant transfers during the window, they failed to get any so-called big-hitters into the team.

Adding that the fight for the title could “still go either way,” with the Old Firm clubs separated by just one point at the top of the SPL going into the international break, he said it will be intriguing to watch how things unravel.

That’s why, according to McCulloch, “even in the window there we were saying everybody was expecting Celtic to go and spend big.”

We have discussed this a few times, and they clearly decided to take a chance by not inviting any of the so-called major names. It might still work out either way for me, so it will be fascinating to watch how it plays out.

Rangers and Celtic are currently quite close to one another, and the last few weeks of the season appear to be highly exciting.

Since Philippe Clement moved to Ibrox in October, the Gers have been playing quite well, but the Hoops are now leading the league after their match against Dundee was postponed on Sunday.

It will have been extremely upsetting for the Light Blues not to have been given the opportunity to regain their top status back, even though they do have a game against their Old Firm opponents.

Brendan Rodgers’ team has had a mixed season since their play hasn’t always been at its best, despite expectations that they would improve in the January transfer window.

It remains to be seen if their Old Firm triumph on December 30 convinced them that they didn’t need to make major acquisitions, but if the title goes to Ibrox, they may come to regret that choice.
