West Ham boss David Moyes makes front foot football U-turn ahead of Freiburg clash

David Moyes, the manager of West Ham United, gave an interview to reporters prior to our Europa League match against Freiburg today.

David Moyes will be hoping desperately that his West Ham team defeats Freiburg in the Europa League tonight and advances to the competition’s quarterfinals.

The Hammers’ one-goal deficit must be overcome tonight if they are to overcome their 1-0 first-leg loss in Germany last week. The players will need the support of the supporters.

But West Ham is having trouble filling the London Stadium this evening due to the 5:45 p.m. kickoff.

Our Stratford home has been packed before, most notably in 2022 when we play Sevilla in the Europa League.

And in order for us to have any chance of winning tonight against Freiburg, we will need to duplicate that.

It will be crucial, though, for the players to deliver a performance that we can all support. What is Moyes’ position on that specific issue, though?

Before tonight’s crucial matchup with Freiburg, the Scot had a conversation with media.

And as WHUFC.com reports, Moyes said in response to a question on his players’ approach to tonight’s game:

In football, getting off to a quick start is always crucial, but the outcome is what matters most. We therefore intend to be as aggressive as possible from the off and will do all in our power to start the game well.

When addressing the media about his team’s need to start the game strongly, Moyes has undoubtedly never been more confident.

In the past, Moyes has freely acknowledged that he doesn’t play the most appealing style of football and stressed that the most important thing is the outcome.

The only times the Scot instructs his players to get out to a quick start and puts his team on the front foot are when he is in danger of losing his job. Just take a look at the triumphs at the London Stadium against Nottingham Forest and Everton last season, as well as the home victory over Brentford a few weeks ago.

I think a quick start will be essential if Moyes is to lead his West Ham team to a significant victory over Freiburg tonight and shake their confidence.
