Mikey Johnston’s projected transfer fee for Celtic is disclosed by Carlton Palmer.

Mikey Johnston’s tenure at Celtic has undoubtedly been peculiar.

Since his Celtic debut in a 4-1 victory over St Johnstone in May 2017, the Republic of Ireland international has been in and out of the first team.

Johnston made just 92 appearances for Celtic after that point, scoring 13 goals and dishing out 12 assists. Transfermarkt

For comparison, Daizen Maeda has made 100 appearances for Celtic in just over two years, scoring 27 goals and creating 15.

Johnston has obviously had a difficult time leaving his mark on the team. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old is stealing the show in the English Championship while on loan at West Brom, where he has scored six goals in nine games.

And as a result, clubs in the English Championship are becoming interested, not just The Baggies.

Thus, if Celtic decides to sell Johnston, they should be prepared to pay a high price for the former youth player, right?

It appears that if West Brom or any other team wants to sign the elusive winger for the upcoming campaign, Celtic will likely seek a seven-figure sum.

Furthermore, Carlton Palmer, a former England international, believes the Parkhead club will be tough on any prospective trade.

Palmer told Football League World that he was loving his football at West Brom and was having a great time there.

“With the new owners in place, who knows if West Brom would be able to pay him? He is still under contract with his parent club, Celtic, and there isn’t a cost written into his deal.

“But given his stellar play for West Bromwich Albion, Norwich, Sunderland, and other potential Championship clubs will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on the situation.”

Given his performance in the Championship, I don’t think Sunderland’s strategy of attempting to get young players on the cheap will apply to Johnston. Instead, I believe Celtic will be seeking to pay at least £2 million or £3 million for him.

The Celtic winger is obviously adored by Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom. Following his first goal, he called Johnston a “playmaker” for a “very good finish.”

It appears like Mikey Johnston will be in high demand at the conclusion of the season, so Corberan would better persuade his board to break out the credit card if he wants to take him to the Championship permanently.
