Tomáš Souček, a midfielder, is adamant that the West Ham United players are focused on winning the Premier League for the third time in a row when Burnley visits town on Sunday afternoon.
The 29-year-old ended an ugly six-game winless streak last weekend with an incredible late screamer that propelled the Hammers to victory against Everton in their final domestic match. Earlier in the week, the team defeated Brentford 4-2 at home.
A close 1-0 loss in the first leg of the Club’s round of 16 UEFA Europa League match against SC Freiburg has somewhat halted such winning momentum, but Souček thinks a strong performance against the Clarets could increase their chances of advancing past Thursday’s rematch and solidify their already encouraging league position.
“We’re all focused on getting a hat-trick of Premier League wins,” he declared. We know a successful outcome will help us in the table and give us a good boost overall, so we’re certain we can go for it because we’re at home.
“We struggled after the new year, so it was great to get back to winning ways against Brentford and Everton. Hopefully, we can repeat that in the league.”
“While we know it will be difficult—every Premier League game is—people may expect us to win. We’ll make an effort to focus on ourselves, but they are always in danger and fighting for their lives.
At London Stadium, Burnley will undoubtedly battle hard. Under Vincent Kompany’s leadership, the team is aiming for its first three-point haul of 2024 in order to close the eleven-point gap that now separates them from safety.
With his goal at Goodison Park, Souček scored his sixth goal of the Premier League season and his ninth goal overall. Although he is hungry to add more goals to his record, he is encouraged by the depth of goal-scoring skill in the Irons squad.
“I don’t always get so many goals, and I think that one at Everton was definitely up there with my best,” the Czech Republic international continued. Of course, ensuring that the team achieves the desired outcome is paramount.
Jarrod can play multiple roles and has been an incredible asset to the Club since joining. I sincerely hope that his exceptional performance this season is rewarded with a call-up to the England squad this month and for the summer’s European Championships.
At the top of the pitch, we have a ton of excellent players. Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, and Lucas Paquetá are all amazing.
