As her Spanish team, Atletico Madrid Femenina, arranged a touching reunion between the striker and her mother, Ajoke, in honor of Mother’s Day, Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade was moved to tears.
Ajibade was taken aback when she saw her mother enter the Madrid studio where she was doing a club interview, as seen in a video that was uploaded to the team’s Instagram page.
Ajibade collapsed to the ground in tears at seeing her mother; she was overcome with grief and ran to give her a tender embrace.
“I think it’s a great moment for me,” she remarked, adding that she was startled to see her. It’s as if someone were asking, “Am I dreaming, or is this my mother’s spirit?”
Ajibade’s mother had the opportunity to accompany her to public places, savouring every precious moment together.
The Falcons star’s mother was present, so it was a significant occasion for her to score in a league game—a fantastic experience she had never experienced before.
Ajibade stated, “It was an emotional game for me,” in reflection on the contest. Since this is the first time my mother has gone to the field to see me play football, I think this will always hold a special place in my heart. And I was overjoyed to have found her a goal. It’s really unique.
“My mom means a lot to me,” Ajibade continued. I owe my mother my life. All I have today is my mother. My goal is to always bring her pride. I’m glad I can make her proud of myself today.
Ajibade has had multiple on-field successes since joining Atletico from Norway’s Avaldsnes, helping the team win the Trofeo Ramon de Carranza and the Supercopa Femenina.
