With Brendan Rodgers’ news on Wednesday, Rangers might have an Old Firm advantage.

This season, VAR-related controversy has not abated in Scottish football, and Rangers have undoubtedly been embroiled in their share of disputes.

After a debate involving Alistair Johnston, Abdallah Sima, and VAR on that particular day, Willie Collum, it was in fact the final Old Firm derby that infuriated the Gers.

Rangers are by no means the only team with complaints, and Celtic were not happy after losing to Hearts on Sunday (3 March). The controversy raged on for weeks.

Rodgers was incensed by referee Don Robertson and VAR John Beaton, especially when Yang Hyun-Jun was given a red card; an appeal was filed but eventually was denied.

Additionally, Celtic believed that Hearts’ handball penalty against Tomoki Iwata was unfair.

After the game, Bhoys manager Rodgers expressed his opinions. His criticism resulted in an SFA charge, and he will be facing a hearing on Thursday, March 28.

Rodgers may be subject to a two-game touchline ban, meaning he would be forced to watch Celtic’s trip to Livingston on March 31 and Rangers’ vital Old Firm match at Ibrox on April 7. This information was reported by Football Scotland on March 6.

The Rangers might have a significant advantage if that were to occur. Naturally, there are no guarantees, but the Rangers may get a psychological boost if Rodgers is not in the dugout.

These are the kinds of things that could decide the trophy’s final destination in what promises to be a fiercely contested Scottish Premiership title match.

Regarding Abdallah Sima, Chris Jack has provided an update.
