Before the West Ham team’s match against Freiburg on Thursday, March 7, Michail Antonio made an admission.
After a few players left during the January transfer window, the Jamaican international claimed on Tuesday, March 5, on the Footballer’s Football Podcast that the Hammers’ team isn’t as “massive anymore.”
The 33-year-old attacker continued, saying that it will “take its toll” on the group juggling the Premier League with their Europa League run as they attempt to seize the lead in the first leg against the Bundesliga outfit.
“We’re playing [Burnley] at home; we’re having a lot of success right now,” Antonio remarked. Naturally, we have a game in midweek, so we simply need to be careful not to let Europe interfere with our Premier League campaign.
The team isn’t as big as it once was. The boys will suffer since we lost a few players in January, but we’re accustomed to it. Since we are currently in our third year [in Europe], all we need to do is continue to improve and move forward.
The upcoming weeks will undoubtedly challenge the West Ham team as David Moyes’s team’s schedule starts to fill up once more.
After defeating Freiburg twice already in the tournament this season, they will be anxious to leave Germany with a win.
Apart from Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet, who are probably going to miss the last-16 match, it appears like they are in a really good position going into the game.
The Hammers’ recent victories over Brentford and Everton have put them in a considerably stronger position than they were a few weeks ago.
We want to secure our spot in the next round of the competition and make sure that this is going to be another great campaign, so this game is crucial to our season.
A Sky Sports analyst has criticized West Ham supporters for what they did to Moyes, among other unrelated news.
