Latest projections select Jalen Brunson of the Knicks for the All-NBA Third Team.

Regarding the New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson is enjoying an outstanding season. Ever since their season began, Brunson has been the Knicks’ pillar of support. While injuries have recently decimated their lineup, his outstanding scoring has kept New York afloat during a difficult early season and propelled their January 12-2 surge.

This year, the Villanova product received his first All-Star nomination thanks to his performances. Additionally, they have him set up to finish the season with more hardware in his trophy collection.

Brunson was selected for the All-NBA Third Team by Dan Favale of Bleacher Report. He said the following to defend his placement:

“Brunson is not more than a resilient defender or an A-plus passer. But in the entire league, he is one of the most distinctive, significant, and offensive engines. He does indeed play a lot. In terms of overall minutes, he is in the top 10. One cannot disregard such availability,” said Favale.

There is little reason to question Brunson’s effectiveness as a prolific scorer with his 27.2 points per game on 47.7% field goal shooting and 40.7% three-point shooting.

Even still, he does not have an ideal defensive rating of 117.2, especially against one of the league’s best defenses.

Among all NBA guards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder (109.8) and Donovan Mitchell of the

Cleveland Cavaliers (110.1) are second and third in the department. Additionally, according to Favale’s rankings, they happen to be higher than the franchise player for the Knicks.

The Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker and the Dallas Mavericks’ Gilgeous-Alexander make up the Second Team, and Mitchell and Booker are on the First Team.

While he may be too little, too late to catch up to the First Team selections in terms of scoring, Brunson is comparable to Mitchell and Booker and has the potential to win over supporters should he lead the Knicks to a late-season run.

If all goes according to plan, Brunson has a very good chance of making one of the three teams. Which team he ends up on will probably depend on the Knicks’ record.
