Gary O’Neil believes the Wolves man will leave his impact for the rest of the season.

Hugo Bueno’s annoyance is understood by Gary O’Neil, who yet believes the defender will contribute significantly to Wolves’ final few weeks of play.

After eventually graduating from the school, the 21-year-old had a breakout season last year and appeared destined to start at left back this season.

However, Rayan Ait-Nouri has performed admirably at left wing-back when healthy, and the Spaniard has endured a string of frustrating injuries.

Bueno only made two late substitute appearances in 2024 prior to entering the game at Newcastle over the weekend, lasting an hour.

Even though it was his last start on December 9, O’Neil thinks this season will still be his best.

O’Neil remarked of Bueno, “It’s been an unfortunate season for him so far.” He was doing quite well when I first got here. There was a lot of competition between him and Rayan for the same slot, and it was hard to tell who would win.

He then sustained the injury at Ipswich and was sidelined for a few games. Rayan did well, and he most likely participated in one of the cup games upon his return, despite suffering from a strained calf. Occasionally, circumstances such as that work against you sufficiently for someone to succeed.

He had to exercise extreme patience. He wants to play more minutes and, of course, he is annoyed by the circumstances.

But I cherish him dearly. His addition to the team truly makes me happy.

I’m convinced he will play a significant role until the end of the season because, as we’ve seen, injuries and form can alter drastically rapidly. In the upcoming weeks, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde might also see more opportunities because Wolves’ other attacking players are injured.

After watching the Frenchman’s performance against Newcastle, O’Neil was impressed and now wants the club to “dig in and scrap” as they approach key weeks that will decide the outcome of their campaign.

We’ve had a fantastic week, winning the cup to go to the quarterfinals and picking ourselves three huge points against Sheffield United at home.

But given our current situation and the resources at our disposal, this will be the hardest stretch of the season.

Because of the Premier League’s structure, we will have to work hard and scrap.
