Statistics clearly demonstrate how much better Mario Lemina has become under Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, who has encouraged a number of his players to find their best form this season.

During his brief tenure at Molineux, Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has established an upward trajectory.

The Old Gold are performing better than expected considering their financial constraints in the summer, even though the Englishman has little time to get his little squad ready for the 2023–24 campaign.

In addition to Wolves’ improved collective performance, the manager’s playing style has improved the performances of many of his starting XI players, Mario Lemina among them.

According to information released by Wolves’ media staff, Lemina has already scored as many goals this season as he did over the course of his previous five seasons combined.

The Gabon international is playing well under O’Neil’s setup when he is used in deep midfield, as seen by his goal in the closing third of the season.

The 30-year-old has surpassed all of his career goals totals before this season with five, demonstrating his value when moving out of defensive midfield to provide an extra danger.

Beyond only his goal total this season, Lemina’s play has changed as a result of the manager’s attack-oriented, free-flowing scheme at Molineux.

According to FBref, the Wolves midfielder, who earns £45k a week, has improved as a result of the boss’ setup.

Lemina’s Premier League averages for this season are 0.47 key passes and 10.04 attacking third touches per 90, which is a considerable improvement above his 2022–2023 average of 0.21 key passes and 5.61 final third touches.

In the engine room, O’Neil recently praised his highly valued midfield player, calling him “incredible,” noting that his offensive prowess did not take precedence over his defensive duties.

As evidence of how much the Gabon international is like the manager’s style, Lemina has actually improved in his defensive role as well, with 2.02 tackles won per 90 as opposed to 1.66 per 90 the previous season.

With Gomes positioned in the midfield, the former Southampton star has emerged as a powerful force in the manager’s plans at Molineux, establishing himself as one of the team’s most important players due to his leadership and consistency throughout games.

Given Wolves’ present injury problems, O’Neil will value players like Lemina even more and will be depending on his available players to step up and help the team get through this trying period.
