Rangers: Bobby Madden discusses the dramatic event that occurred during their Ibrox loss to Motherwell.

Bobby Madden expressed his opinions on one of the major refereeing disputes during the Rangers vs. Motherwell game at Ibrox.

On Saturday, March 2, the Gers suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Celtic; however, they were granted some relief when Celtic lost to Hearts the next day.

The game-winning goal was scored by Dan Casey, but getting onto the field after Ross McCausland had been challenged earlier was rather fortunate for him.

To Philippe Clement’s infuriation, the Motherwell defender was not even given a yellow card, but Madden believes he ought to have been substituted out.

“Today, you simply cannot confront in such manner. On his personal Instagram feed, the former FIFA official stated [March 4] that “playing the ball is not a consideration.”

The safety of the players is paramount. Did the player act carelessly, which would result in a reckless challenge receiving a yellow card?

Or did he put the opponent’s safety in jeopardy, which is a significant foul play that carries a red card?

Given that there was no live foul and the situation was effectively a squandered opportunity, VAR had a legitimate chance to suggest an on-field review to the referee.

More by accident than by intent, there was no real contact with the studs, but the challenge’s tempo and intensity would have called for a red card.

The way the Rangers players and bench personnel reacted to this risky challenge on McCausland said volumes.

It’s unbelievable that referee Alan Muir missed it the first time around and that Euan Anderson in the VAR room neglected to bring it up for a second inspection.

As the Gers’ winning streak came to an end in front of the Ibrox supporters, Casey’s subsequent goal only made matters worse.

There were other significant officiating calls that caused controversy, such as the one that occurred during Celtic’s defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle.

With only two points separating the Old Firm opponents, there is concern that these calls will decide the outcome of the tight title fight.

Although many would prefer to see VAR eliminated, if it remains, it must be used to situations like this one.

It is said that over the course of a campaign, these choices balance themselves out, but at the moment, it does not feel that way.

In unrelated Rangers news, a reporter has justified Hibernian’s entitlement to reduce the number of tickets available to the Gers going forward.
