Alistair Johnston indicates a shift in class attitudes within the Celtics’ locker room, which is encouraging for the title fight.

Despite a rough stretch of lost points and criticism, Celtic has everything in their own hands going into the final ten games of the Scottish Premiership season.

The fact that Brendan Rodgers’ team lost to Motherwell at home on Saturday gave the Bhoys even more momentum. With a win over Hearts on Sunday, the team can take the top spot in the standings.

For Celtic, this week has gone well. Despite the ups and downs this season, the fans have demonstrated that they are willing to support the squad, and the players have achieved two victories that will bolster morale.

Alistair Johnston, the defender, made one of the most intriguing remarks from the team in recent days when he discussed a crucial halftime during last week’s match against Motherwell.

The Canadian international revealed that, following another depressing forty-five minutes, there was a noticeable shift in mindset within the Fir Park locker room, which seemingly ignited the comeback triumph and the 7-1 Celtic Park victory over Dundee.

As straightforward as it sounds, Johnston told The Herald: “We moved forward and didn’t really consider the consequences as much.” In the first half, we played a bit too safe and a little too slowly because we were a little too risk averse. We’ve had a slight trend toward that in our recent games.

Therefore, it was crucial that everyone approached the game with a little bit of an eff it mentality. We discussed this at halftime. What could go wrong if you play it forwards? We all run with bodies surrounding us, so lose it up there and we’ll get it back. We really focused on it and played it forwards while being free, and we did a great job of that.

We went back to our roots and let the system to decide how the game was played for us. Everyone just finds the correct area on the field when we’re playing forward. Teams struggle greatly with it. Teams get tired from our endless jogging and the number of legs we have on the field.

We need to see Celtic play like this going forward, bold and direct, not only against Hearts tomorrow but throughout the entire campaign.

It’s time to give up on apathetic performances and clumsy passing that hasn’t worked to dismantle teams.

It was great to watch the players, especially against Dundee, move the ball into the final third more quickly and to see so many accurate balls into the box for players to score from, as opposed to just holding onto the ball safely.
