Dallas will prioritize offensive skill positions in the combine.

The wide receivers and running backs at the NFL Scouting Combine were able to field questions from the media on day three and spend time discussing their draft process and the activities they have planned for this week.

Among both position groups, the Dallas Cowboys were frequently brought up. Rico Dowdle and Tony Pollard will be entering free agency as running back, and the wide receiver situation may require some exceptional young talent.

At least seven wide receivers and four running backs were scheduled for formal meetings with the Cowboys during the combine. These wide receivers included Keon Coleman of Florida State, Troy Franklin of Oregon, Adonai Mitchell of Texas, Javon Baker of UCF, Jalen McMillan of Washington, Brian Thomas Jr. of LSU, Xavier Worthy of Texas, Trey Benson of Florida State, Ray Davis of Kentucky, Audric Estime of Notre Dame, Jaylen Wright of Tennessee, and Braelon Allen of Wisconsin.

After meeting with many of the best running backs in the East-West Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl, the Cowboys made fewer formal appointments at the position during the combine. Jonathan Brooks, a running back from Texas who is regarded as the best in the game, attended one of the Shrine Bowl meetings.

With Brandin Cooks and CeeDee Lamb established as Mike McCarthy’s top two receivers, the high number of wide receiver meetings may surprise some. However, with Cooks approaching the last year of his contract and a boost behind those two needed in 2024, using an early pick on a receiver may not be out of the question.

First-round projections for Coleman, Franklin, Mitchell, Thomas Jr., and several other credible mock drafts have all listed them as prospects to watch. Coleman stands out among the others due to his connection to CeeDee Lamb. After Hurricane Katrina, Lamb relocated to the Houston region, although the two were raised in Opelousas, Louisiana. Coleman revealed on Friday that the two are cousins.

The offensive linemen, a position  that is anticipated to garner a lot of attention from the Dallas Cowboys this week in Indianapolis, will conclude the NFL Combine’s media availability on Saturday.
