After scoring the first Celtic goal, Daniel Kelly talks

Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly has spoken out after he scored his first senior goal in football against Dundee this evening.

In a classic show beneath the lights, the Hoops defeated their opponents seven games to none. Play was fast-paced and intense the entire time.

Within the opening six minutes, a header by Cameron Carter-Vickers opened the floodgates. Before young Kelly entered and stole the show, Adam Idah, Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda, Greg Taylor, and Callum McGregor all joined in.

Just after the hour, the 18-year-old, who had taken over for the captain at halftime, thumped one into the upper corner with his weaker right foot. Though anyone who have watched Celtic B this season won’t be too surprised by his goal, it was a finish that demonstrated maturity well beyond Kelly’s years.

The midfield player was thrilled to have carried over his form into the senior game, saying, “It was brilliant.” He has frequently scored goals for the young team using third-man runs, much like he did tonight (Celtic FC on YouTube).

When the opportunity arose, I was visibly buzzing. Learning from this group of boys is not better, nor is it better to do it in front of the public.

Kelly has been with the team since he was eight years old, so scoring goals for the Celtic first team has likely always been a goal of his. Those closest to him were there as he accomplished a major objective: “I had quite a few of them (family members) in the crowd tonight,” joked Kelly.

“It was great because some of my friends who have watched me grow up were there as well.”

The academy graduate appears to have a promising career ahead of them. He appears to be well-liked by head coach Aaron Rodgers, and considering how important this part of the season is, it is noteworthy that an 18-year-old with such little senior experience has been trusted to play the entire half of the game, no matter the outcome.
