The likelihood of Liverpool acquiring Cheick Doucoure is almost nonexistent.
Cheick Doucoure’s decision to sign a new contract with Crystal Palace has dealt a serious blow to Liverpool’s ambitions of acquiring him this summer.
The midfield player and a move to Anfield have been frequently linked. He was noted as a possible addition to the Reds roster last summer following Chelsea’s early advances on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Ultimately, to strengthen their midfield options, the Reds signed Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo. Nonetheless, Doucoure was apparently still of interest to Liverpool.
For present, though, a move seems doubtful. The midfield player extended his previous contract by two years when he inked a new one with Crystal Palace that runs until 2029.
Speaking after the move was confirmed, he said: “I’m really happy to commit my future to Crystal Palace – I’ve enjoyed my time here so much already. We have a great group here, and I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch as quickly as possible to play in front of the supporters of this fantastic football club.”
Chairman Steve Parish added: “It is brilliant news that Cheick, who was such an outstanding performer for us last season, has signed this new contract.
“We are confident that Cheick will continue to develop as a player in the years to come, following such a stellar start to life in red and blue, and I couldn’t be happier to see him become the latest player to commit their future to Crystal Palace.”
