When Delon Wright was finally able to make his Miami Heat debut, he rushed to social media to thank the team for the chance.
After the Washington Wizards bought Wright out, he joined with the Heat earlier this month amid a lull in their schedule. Although he did not play in their Friday night game against the New Orleans Pelicans, he was certainly required on Monday when they played the Sacramento Kings.Due to NBA sanctions for their involvement in a brawl with the Pelicans during the game’s fourth quarter, Jimmy Butler, Nikola Jovic, and Thomas Bryant were not available for the Heat. In addition, Miami was without Josh Richardson, Orlando Robinson, Terry Rozier, and Tyler Herro because of injuries.
Wright was starting lineup as a result of all of that, and he ended up playing more than 35 minutes in the 121-110 away win. Along with his 13 points, he also had five assists.
The 31-year-old played more than 20 minutes in a single game only twice since Christmas, averaging less than 14 minutes per game in his 33 games with the Wizards this season.
Butler and Jovic both received a one-game suspension, so they should be fit to play on Tuesday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Bryant’s three-game suspension is still owed for two more games.
Although Herro is said to have escaped a catastrophic knee injury, it is unclear when he will return to the field. Rozier is still sidelined but is on the mend from his knee ailment.
This may present Wright with even more chances to get on the field and establish himself with his new squad. Dorell, his brother, was a member of the Heat from 2004–05 through the 2009–10 season, therefore he was previously connected to the team.
The Heat have managed to put together a 32-25 record that is good for sixth place in the Eastern Conference despite having to start thirty different starting lines in their 57 games this season. Delon Wright appears prepared to blend in and lend his support whenever needed, given the abundance of talented players on the Heat.
