Richard Foster claims that Rangers took advantage of the Ibrox crowd to start their victory over Hearts quickly because the home crowd created an unfavorable atmosphere for the visitors.
Speaking from firsthand experience, the pundit described the Gers support as a “horrible place to be” on BBC Sportscene on February 24. This is especially true when the team plays well right from the start, as it did in the 5-0 victory when Mohamed Diomande opened the score in the second minute.
When host Steven Thompson drew a comparison between the supporters and Philippe Clement’s current setup and the conclusion of Michael Beale’s tragic term, Foster responded that the comparison was valid in both directions.
Thompson stated at 7:49 p.m.: “They have a lot of options now, but I think the connection between the fans and the players, the team, and the staff is really pleasing Philippe Clement, because that had completely vanished at the end of Michael Beale’s tenure and it’s back bigger than ever.”
Foster retorted, “Yeah, you win games, the supporters will be there.” The crowd will support you if you give performances like you did today. I believe it works both ways, though. The spectators were enthusiastic about the game from the beginning, which helped the Rangers get off to a quick start as they fed off of one another.
I was present at Ibrox when the Rangers were getting going. It’s a terrible environment, and it’s quite difficult to even hear your teammates, much less focus and perform well.
There is a give-and-take dynamic between the team and the supporters, but lately there has been a lot to react to because of Clement.
The magnitude of this victory was surprising, even in the context of upending the title race, and it indicated the Belgian had the players totally focused on the task at hand.
Although the SPFL title is still far from certain, the in-form third-place team’s confidence is unavoidably rising as players like Michael Stewart suddenly acknowledge they could be difficult to stop.
The fact that the three January signings of the manager—Diomande, Oscar Cortes, and Fabio Silva—all scored and had significant roles is more evidence of his techniques. It is even more astonishing that the performance was given in spite of Todd Cantwell’s lengthy injury list.
In January, there was a lot of attention focused on finding a striker. Cyriel Dessers did a good job of demonstrating why, but Rangers were unbeatable while facing the top candidate, Lawrence, because their players were currently in perfect sync with the home crowd.
In other Rangers news, a Light Blues player revealed to Tom English what exactly bothered him after video of a fan altercation surfaced.
