Brendan Rodgers discusses the tactical requests he makes of the Celtics players.

Under Brendan Rodgers, Celtic has evolved into a new team this season as they attempt a domestic double.

Rather than playing high-intensity football like Ange Postecoglou did in 2022–2023—the Bhoys have occasionally shifted to a more possession-based style of play in an effort to create space.

Rodgers has significantly altered his formation over the past few weeks in an attempt to boost output in the attacking zones, combining Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah on loan to form a two-man strikeforce.

Sincerely, the results of this change to the starting lineup for the Hoops have been mixed, with brief triumphs away from home against Hibernian and St. Mirren serving as examples of the benefits it can offer.

However, some feel Rodgers should return to a more comfortable structure after the Scottish Premiership winners seemed completely lost last weekend against Kilmarnock at home.

We need to rectify this when we travel to Fir Park tomorrow to play Motherwell. It has seemed like changes to our approach have often slowed down our forward momentum throughout recent games.

Although some view the issue differently, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers asserts that his team’s system hasn’t altered “one iota” and that the current drop in performance is partly due to the absence of important players.

According to Rodgers (quoted in The Daily Record), “I’ve heard bits and pieces about slower build-up.” However, that is not the directive. The goal is to move rapidly and with great speed through the pitch.

The players are not required to perform anything different from what they have done in the past. I’ve heard about the changes to the system and style. However, not a single thing has changed in the system. Not even one. The full-backs that are pictured here are still entering the game. The wingers continue to operate outside.

Runs on the inside as they occur. I am definitely aware of the difficulty that comes with joining a successful squad. However, I am also aware that the philosophy isn’t all that different from how I have previously worked. Whether that means changing it or sticking with 3-4-3.

Since my teams work quickly and dynamically, neither the system nor the style have requested to be altered. However, what we have most definitely missed

Rodgers has made some audacious statements about the Bhoys’ style of play that are intriguing, but there is a noticeable difference between what fast-paced, dynamic football looks like and what we’ve witnessed since we returned from the winter break.

Due to a lack of opportunities created throughout the course of ninety minutes, Celtic has only scored three goals from open play in their last four league games.

All of that might, however, alter if Motherwell wins at Fir Park, where a stronger showing is required to capture a crucial three points in the title battle.
