The New York Giants’ Draft Concept by B/R

The New York Giants have four picks within the draft’s top 70, a golden opportunity to improve a roster that last year vastly underachieved.

Nearly every position unit on the Giants’ roster has needs. But according to author Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, in the perfect world, the Giants would go on the offensive to take care of their two biggest needs on that side of the ball.New York must immediately improve [Daniel] Jones’ supporting cast if it wants him to be successful. Even though the Giants ko had one of the worst receiving corps in NFL in 2023, they could still see Wan’Dale Robinson’s potential. Their offensive line presented another problem.

Fortunately, the Giants still have the option to trade down from their current sixth-round pick and still select a top prospect at wide receiver, such as Malik Nabers of LSU or Rome Odunze of Washington, or a top lineman, such as Joe Alt of Notre Dame or Olumuyiwa Fashanu of Penn State.

They might also add a significant amount of additional draft capital in the process, particularly if they are facing a team that is in need of a quarterback.

Knox cites a comparable deal completed by the Detroit Lions in the previous season. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs was one of the strong offensive players that the Lions acquired after trading back from their sixth-round selection

The Detroit Lions moved from No. 6 to No. 12 last year in order to get an additional second-round pick. In a comparable deal, the Giants might acquire a first-round pick and an additional player in Round 2, such as Washington wideout Ja’Lynn Polk or BYU lineman Kingsley Suamataia. Given that New York has a lot of pressing needs and only anticipated cap space of $28.6 million, adding more premium draft money would be crucial. It makes sense for the Giants to trade back, particularly if one of the top quarterbacks falls to the Giants’ sixth-round selection.
